According to the Code of the Town of Chilhowie a Mayor is to be elected every two years for a two year term to begin on the first day of July after the election. The Mayor is to stand as the President of the Town Council but will only be allowed the power to vote in the event of a tie. The Town Council is responsible for assigning the duties of the Mayor. The office of the Mayor of the Town of Chilhowie has continued to gain more responsibilities and authorities throughout the years.
Gary Heninger
Born and raised in Chilhowie, Gary Heninger is serving his 9th term as Mayor. Gary is also a local business owner who has been in business in Chilhowie for 43 years.
"Chilhowie has been my home since I was a child and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our small size allows for a comfortable home-town atmosphere for all of our citizens. Visitors are made to feel right at home whether they’re here for an extended stay of just passing through. The people here are one big happy family, at least most days of the week, and we pride ourselves on our devotion to the future generations of the town. Chilhowie is a great place to live. The town may be small in size but we always have activities available for our citizens to get involved in."
